Revisit Tatooine's Dune Sea: Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit (August 1st)

Yet another August 1st set has been revealed! Recreating the classic scene from Return Of The Jedi, we get our first look at the Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit set! Without a shadow of a doubt, I have to say this could be one of my favourite Lego Star Wars sets to be released for a while!

The set includes 6 figures: Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Boba Fett, as well as another 25th anniversary figure Nien Nunb, a figure I couldn't be more excited to have in Lego!

All the figures look incredibly detailed, with Luke, Han and Lando all having new prints and Luke with the updated hairpiece (the same as from the Emperor's Throne Room (75352)).

Boba and Chewbacca are the same as we've seen before, which is perfectly fine as they are both great, detailed figures. However, this print for Boba is not accurate to his appearance in Return of the Jedi and his lack of cape is slightly disappointing.

The set includes two separate builds, as the title suggests, the desert skiff and the almighty Sarlacc pit! The desert skiff and the Scarlacc pit are the most detailed versions we have ever gotten. I love the brick-built controls and extra details on the fins of the desert skiff and the great parts usage, including a Ninjago hat piece.

The Sarlacc pit is far more built up than any of its predecessors, and I have to say I'm a fan! The terrain surrounding the pit is far more detailed and reminds me more of a mock/ diorama when compared to previous versions.

Although this set has clearly been designed for all ages of fans, it still packs a great selection of play features. The desert skiff includes a push-out plank to throw Luke into the Sarlacc pit and a foldout railing where Han nearly falls into the Sarlacc pit!

The Sarlacc pit has an opening mouth and moving tentacles that can be controlled with levers from behind the build. The mouth is also large enough to fit a single minifigure in (it would be a shame if anyone were to fall in!).

This set is meant to be the perfect companion to the USC Jabbas Sail Barge, which has been rumoured to be released in September/October 2024.

There is a lot to love about this set, but not everything. The set retails for £69.99 which, regardless of whether you judge value by price per piece or the eye test, feels far too expensive! I appreciate the added detail as it is a set I would love to have on display, and I understand that it needs to match the feel of the UCS Sail Barge, but the price for a play set feels at least £10/15 too overpriced. My only other small gripe would be that I wish a few more clear pises had been included to give the Desert Skiff that little extra height over the Sarlacc Pit, although this is an easy fix at the cost of a few additional pieces.

Overall this is a great set that will provide plenty of fun for kids and look great on display, whether a stand-alone set or alongside the rumoured UCS Sail Barge. It's unfortunate about the price but I'm hoping to find this set on sale throughout its life on shelfs.

It's definitely a set I'll be picking up at some point!
